Understanding Our Product Sustainability L5 Rating

Introduction

Sustainability is at the heart of responsible production and consumption. To help consumers make informed choices, we evaluate products based on their environmental impact across different stages of their lifecycle. Our sustainability rating system was developed by Rishabh Sharma, Chief Product Officer at TARAgram, under the supervision and guidance of leading experts in sustainability:

Dr. Ashok Khosla – A globally recognized environmentalist and founder of Development Alternatives, dedicated to advancing sustainable development through policy and technology innovation.

Dr. K. Vijayalakshmi – A distinguished scientist specializing in environmental management and rural development, with extensive experience in natural resource conservation and sustainable livelihoods.

Dr. Neeti Khetarpal Sanan – An expert in sustainability and impact assessment, contributing significantly to research on environmental policies and social development initiatives.

This comprehensive rating system considers various factors that influence a products overall sustainability. Each product is evaluated based on six key parameters that determine its environmental impact throughout its lifecycle.

Key Parameters of the Sustainability Rating

Material Source
The origin of materials used in a product greatly influences its environmental footprint. Products made from recycled, organic, or sustainably sourced materials are rated higher, as they contribute to resource conservation and reduce dependency on non-renewable inputs.

Manufacturing
The production process plays a crucial role in sustainability. Our rating assesses whether products are manufactured using ethical labor practices, energy-efficient processes, and responsible machinery usage to minimize environmental harm.

Packaging
Sustainable packaging is essential for reducing waste. Products that use biodegradable, recyclable, or compostable packaging materials receive a higher rating, ensuring minimal environmental impact from packaging waste.

Waste Management
A responsible approach to waste is key to sustainability. Our system evaluates how effectively waste generated during production and after use is managed—whether it is repurposed, recycled, or composted to support a circular economy.

Product Dispatch
The logistics and transportation of a product also contribute to its overall sustainability. Products that minimize reliance on non-eco-friendly middlemen and adopt sustainable distribution practices score better in this category.

Product Disposal
A products impact does not end with its use. We assess whether a product is biodegradable, recyclable, or leaves a lasting environmental footprint. Products designed for easy and responsible disposal rank higher in sustainability.

Every product we use has an environmental impact, from its creation to its disposal. Our sustainability rating aims to provide transparency, empowering consumers to make choices that align with their environmental values. By supporting products with strong sustainability scores, we can collectively work towards a greener and more responsible future.
